Thigh Lift Surgery Guide in Turkey

Introduction

If fitness and weight control efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, the thigh lift surgery may be right for you.

Overview

A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that can reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body. You may choose to get a thigh lift if you’ve lost a lot of weight.

Thigh lifts are not intended strictly for the removal of excess fat. Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to new body contours. In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a thigh lift along with liposuction may be recommended.

Benefits of thigh lift surgery

There are many benefits of thigh lift surgery, here are some of them :

• Remove excess skin and fat:

With massive weight loss, your thigh skin can lose its elasticity, leaving folds of skin behind. A thigh lift is your only solution for toned and tight-looking thighs.

• Eliminate chafing:

Redundant skin causes chafing. You may notice it especially when you’re wearing shorts or a skirt, or when you’re trying to hike, jog, or exercise. It can be difficult to feel confident, and getting a thigh lift may be the right way to reclaim your self-image.

• Achieve a firmer thigh appearance:

If you have loose muscles, your thighs can appear saggy, making you look older than you are.

• Make it easier to exercise:

Excessive sagging skin tends to get in the way when you’re exercising, working out, going for a stroll, or generally trying to be active. By removing that unnecessary skin, you may find these activities are much more pleasant after the procedure.

• Reduce skin infection:

Individuals who have excess skin on their thighs may experience irritations, rashes, and skin infections when the excess skin rubs together. Once the hanging skin between the thighs is trimmed away, you can expect a decreased risk of rashes.

Your surgeon will provide thorough preoperative instructions, answer any questions you may have before your surgery, and he will take a detailed medical history, and perform a physical exam to determine your fitness for surgery.

In advance of your procedure, your surgeon may ask you to lose weight or make a lifestyle change to ensure the best results and minimize the chance of complications. You should be at a stable, dependable weight for a significant period of time before you undergo a thigh lift.

You should stop smoking before undergoing surgery to promote better healing. Your surgeon will tell you how far in advance of your surgery you should quit. Avoid taking aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, and some herbal medications that can cause increased bleeding.

steps of thigh lift procedure

A thigh lift procedure includes the following steps:

Step 1 – Anesthesia:

A thigh lift usually lasts several hours and can be an outpatient procedure or require a short hospital stay. You may be given local or general anesthesia, depending on the surgical plan you and your doctor developed.

Step 2 – The incision:

Your surgeon makes an incision in your groin. Depending on the type of thigh lift you have, the incision may extend around the back of your thigh, down toward your knee or around your hip and back. Your surgeon removes fat, repositions tissue and tightens nearby muscles.

Step 3 – Closing the incisions:

Deep sutures within underlying tissues help to form and support the newly shaped contours. Sutures, skin adhesive tapes or clips may be used to close the skin incisions.

Step 4 – See the results:

After six months, your final thigh lift results will be visible and swelling should have subsided completely.

You should rest your legs as much as possible for up to 10 days. During this time, you should stay home from work or school. Your plastic surgeon will let you know when you can go back.

Swelling and bruising will be most pronounced in the 2-3 days following your surgery. Continue to wear your compression garment and if needed, change your bandages according to your doctor’s instructions.

After the first week you will return to your doctor’s office for a follow up visit. At this time, your drains and stitches will be removed, and your bandages will be removed or changed.

After 2 weeks, it is time to seek greater balance between avoidance of movement, and simple, slow walking. Gentle movement will prevent blood clots from forming in your lower limbs. Cautious, easy walking is best, as are simple calf-exercises such as pointing and flexing your feet to stretch the back side of your lower legs.

Around the six-week mark, your incisions should be fully healed and the swelling in your thighs will be at a minimum. Your scars will still be visible, and can range in color from light red to dark purple.

Risks and complications of thigh lift

You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure and any risks and potential complications. Thigh lift surgery risks and complications include:

• Scarring:

In most cases, an inner thigh lift will not create a very visible scar because the incision is placed along the groin region. However, an outer thigh lift is likely to leave a more conspicuous scar.

• Pain:

A thigh lift is usually not very painful compared to some other procedures. We try to reduce pain by infiltrating the area full of both short and long acting local anesthetics at the time of surgery.

• Seroma:

Seroma is a buildup of fluid or blood without blood cells under the skin in your incision sites. This can result because of an interruption of the lymphatic drainage as a result of dissection during surgery and because of the dependent nature of the legs. This can be reduced by keeping your legs elevated as much as possible after surgery. You should, however, get up and walk short distances frequently to reduce the risk of blood clots forming in your legs.

• Bleeding:

Bleeding problems can be reduced by avoiding taking medications that can thin your blood before surgery. You will receive a list of common medications to avoid for two weeks before surgery.

• Infection:

Some degree of infection risk is unavoidable in any surgical procedure. You should be careful when emptying the drainage tubes, changing the dressing, or bathing. Your surgeon may prescribe antibiotic medications to minimize your risk of post-op infection.

• Blood clots:

This is one of the rare but serious risks in any major surgical procedure. A significant clot may occur in the leg, which could travel to other body areas, such as the lungs, heart, or brain. To reduce the risk of blood clots in the legs with a thigh lift or any cosmetic surgery, it is important to get up and walk frequently after surgery. In addition, you will likely get an injection of a blood thinner (heparin) immediately before surgery.
