Color blindness examination

The colors are the things that are given their nature and contribute to the recognition of people and the distinction between them.

There is no treatment yet in the application of congenital color blindness, except gene therapy, which has not expanded yet in the treatment of humans with it. Still, there are ways of coexistence and acclimatization with it, identified through this article, in addition to other valuable information.

What is color blindness?

Color blindness is a condition, in which some people cannot distinguish between some colors and others, and color blindness affects men and women, but the incidence of it in men is higher than in women. So that scientific studies prove that it affects one out of every twelve men, at the same time affects one out of every two hundred women.

Some people may ask what color blindness is in nature?

As for the nature of color blindness, it is primarily a hereditary disease; So that it can be said: that color blindness is transmitted through heredity between parents and children. It can appear in the grandfather and the grandson and does not appear in the parents, so the man or woman may carry the genes of the disease. At the same time, his symptoms do not appear on them, and the disease is transmitted through them to the children.

The reason it's more present in men than in women is that a man has one X chromosome. The presence of one gene is sufficient to make him sick. Still, the woman carries a chromosome X (two), so the disease must be transmitted to her because the disease has affected her mother and father together.

What are the types of color blindness?

Types of color blindness are divided into three types; she:

The first type: non-discrimination between red and green, which is the most common and the most common of the three-color blindness, and is called Daltonian, because the great chemist John Dalton had published a scientific study. Which is the first of its kind on color blindness, in which he demonstrated his color blindness; He could not distinguish between red and green.

The second type is the one in which the sufferer suffers from the inability to distinguish between blue and yellow.

The third type of color blindness is the one in which the person is unable to distinguish between the colors permanently, and this type is very rare.

What are the causes of color blindness?

First: The genetic cause: It is the primary and most prevalent cause. As the disease is transmitted from parents to children - as we explained before - at birth, and for further clarification; an average healthy person has three types of cells in the eye cone, and each type of these cells receives a different color from the three primary colors, which are: blue, green, and red. In the case of transmission of the disease to the child is born one loss of the types of cells in the eye cone. As a result, the affected child cannot see one of the primary colors, or see the color at levels different from usual.

Second: aging and aging.

Third: An eye injury is an external injury, which can lead to color blindness.

Fourth: The retina is affected as a symptom of diabetes.

Fifth: Other eye diseases. Such as macular degeneration, cataracts, and cataract disease, which causes impaired color vision, and lens surgery is performed; to implant artificial lenses instead of natural, restore the luster of colors to the previous, and heal the patient from color blindness.

Sixth: taking medications, the symptoms of which are color blindness, and there is no problem with this; As things return to normal with the patient after he stops taking these medications; They are just side effects, and these drugs, such as epilepsy medicine, which is an anti-seizure medication, can decrease the level of color vision for everyone who takes it by as much as 41%.

Seventh: Some diseases that may lead to color blindness, namely:

Parkinson's: a neurological disorder that destroys light-sensitive nerve cells and makes them unable to function in differentiating colors.

A neurodegenerative disease known as Leper disease, abbreviated as LHON, may confuse the green-red color, and this disease affects men more than women.

One of the syndromes, known as (Kalman syndrome), is caused by the failure of the pituitary gland. Color blindness is one of its symptoms, in addition to a malfunction in the growth of the reproductive systems.

Eight: Exposure to some toxic chemicals may cause diseases, and health problems, including color blindness.

What are the symptoms of color blindness?

There is a difference in the symptoms of color blindness; a patient can see some of the colors, and at the same time, he does not see other colors. For example, the patient can differentiate between the blue and yellow colors, and at the same time, he can’t distinguish between the green and red colors.

The patient can see many colors, and he doesn't know that he sees them differently from the healthy ones, just as some patients with color blindness can’t see the colors and differentiate between them, at a time when the healthy people see hundreds of degrees of colors.

A symptom of color blindness of the third type is that the patient cannot see all the colors except black, white, and gray, which is a rare condition.

What are the risks of color blindness?

Color blindness leads to learning difficulties and delays in the ability to read and write.

Color blindness results in the inability to join some jobs, for which the distinction between colors is an inherent skill; like driving (planes, cars, etc.).

How is color blindness tested?

There are several types of color blindness testing:

Type I: Ishihara color blindness test:

In this color blindness test, the patient sits in front of one of the wooden or plastic panels, and this plate has a uniform color in the form of points, and there are numbers written in the form of colored spots. In the color blindness test, the doctor requests the patient to read the numbers placed on the board and their colors.

If the patient correctly answered the test; He is not color blindness, and if he cannot see the color numbers, this means that he is color blindness.

If the patient's answers contain his vision, the numbers are brownish; this means that he is color blind to green and red.

If the patient cannot distinguish between blue and yellow; He suffers from a defect in the optic nerve.

The second type: accurate color blindness test:

This test is also called (color arrangement examination). In this test, the doctor asks the patient to arrange some things according to their colors and grades.

The third type: Cambridge color blindness test:

During this Ishihara-like test, the patient sits in front of a computer screen. The patient tries to find the shape of the letter (C), which appears in a different color from the background color of the screen. It exists on the screen randomly, and then one of the four keys is pressed.

The fourth type: color blindness test with the color vision anomaly scale:

This test is used by doctors to detect the presence of what can be considered a problem in distinguishing green and red and distinguishing them, and the patient looks through a lens, then sees a circle. The upper half of this circle is a yellow light, and in the lower half there are green and red lights, the colorblind patient turns the knobs so that the half of the circle is equal in brightness and color.

The color blindness test does not cause any pain of any kind, but the one who undergoes it must cooperate with the doctor; For example, it is not possible to perform a color blindness test for infants, nor is it a confidential test. The patient can be accompanied by a relative or around him.

Treatment of color blindness:

Treatment of hereditary color blindness is a severe disease to treat or a stick. It cannot be cured, but it is possible to cope and cope with it.

A color blindness person may call his clothes a substitute for distinguishing them through color. Still, he will not be able to perform some work that requires color discrimination, such as Jobs, in which electrical wires of different colors are found.

When distinguishing traffic lights, colors can be detected by arranging them. For example, red is defined as the top, and green is at the bottom.

It is possible for those who suffer from color blindness to wear glasses of color blindness, and there are special lenses for this disease called Enchroma. These lenses are used to increase the ability to distinguish colors, and these lenses are used in the form of contact lenses or glasses lenses. The doctor is responsible for choosing the most appropriate way to treat the problem.

How can glasses color blindness help patients?

Colorblind glasses help color blindness people by assisting them in choosing or matching colors, choosing types of clothes, and allow them to differentiate between mismatched colors.

People with color blindness cannot join specific jobs, the work requiring them to distinguish between colors, and color blindness glasses expand the field for patients to join these jobs such as restaurants, decoration offices, clothing stores, and engineering offices.

Types of color blindness glasses:

Color Correction System:

It is a unique system with a recognized brand, and it focuses on filters that change the wavelength of each color received by the eye. These filters are specially designed, and independent for each patient suffering from color blindness, and this type of filter is suitable for application to glasses, as well as contact lenses.

Wavelength correction system:

This type of color blind glasses focuses on the reason for the failure to distinguish between colors, due to an abnormal reaction of cells specializing in detecting colors in the retina. These cells affect conical cells, which are sensitive to the green and red light waves, and this causes blindness Red and green colors.

The color-blindness glasses of this type contain lenses that have a selective nature for specific wavelengths in the light-sensitive cells, which we have mentioned above, which increases the brain's ability to distinguish between the wavelengths of green and red colors.

According to the producers' statements about the last color of color blindness glasses, this type of lens helps 80% of people with color blindness to see colors independently. It means that each person with this disease differs from his response to the one with the same disease, after using color blindness glasses from this type.

In general, patients are surprised after using these glasses, the number of colors they see, and the amount of vitality they feel.

As for acquired color blindness, it can be cured, or to alleviate its symptoms on the human person; color blindness can be treated for those who take medications that cause it to stop taking these medications.

Color blindness in children:

The mother can discover color blindness in children when they start to speak at the age of two years, and by the inability of her children to distinguish between green and red, when mandating the child to color a garden, for example. In the case of choosing a color other than green; Like using red, for example, in coloring instead of green. And here, the mother realizes that there is color blindness in her child, and therefore it is presented to a doctor.

And upon observing the child at the age of three years, when he draws, if the grass he draws is brown, or finds it difficult to distinguish between pink and white, He is then color blindness.

It is worth noting that some nurseries that receive children aged three or four years conduct color blindness testing in children before the beginning of the school year. The mother can discover color blindness in children through other means; Such as TV, or mobile phone, and how the child uses them, hangs, or speaks, then she can discover color blindness in her child.

When the doctor discusses identifying the cause of color blindness in children, the doctor asks about the medical history of the child and his relatives. If the cause is hereditary, then there is no cure in this case. If the purpose is due to other reasons, color blindness can be treated here by giving antibiotics, for example, to people with optic neuritis or the treatment of chromosome pigmentation.

Partial color blindness:

There are two types of color blindness as the visible colors; there is total color blindness and partial color blindness; Partial color blindness is where the person can distinguish between some colors, while others cannot.

As for total color blindness, it is in which the patient can’t distinguish the colors except white, black, and gray.

How does coexistence with color blindness occur?

Several methods enable color blindness patients to cope with the disease, and these methods are:

There are mobile applications that enable patients to distinguish between colors.

Contribution of the relatives, friends, and relatives of color blindness patients in arranging life matters and coordinating the needs of people with this disease.

People with color blindness memorize the colors of things, which patients find difficult to distinguish from one another.

One of the high technology applications that help color blindness patients in translating colors into sounds and this application is named: eyeborg.

There is the development of color blindness treatment by gene therapy, this treatment works to repair the deformations of the genes, which are responsible for infecting color blindness patients, but this type of therapy still raises controversy.
